Dumpsters for Arp's Older Homes and Acreage

About 18 Miles Southeast of Tyler

Arp was called Strawberry when the post office opened in 1898, and it still feels like a farm town. The 2020 census counted 892 people. The houses are the oldest on our whole route, with a median build year of 1970, and close to one home in five is a mobile home. Lake Tyler sits just to the north. We go east out of Tyler, then south on SH-135, about 18 miles. Next-day is the usual.

Placing a Can on Country Lots in Arp

On your own land, there's no permit to worry about. A can on a city street is different, so call Arp City Hall before you count on the curb.

Country lots bring their own problems. A pasture can look dry and still be soft a foot down after a wet week. Mark the septic tank. Truck fits, tank stays whole.

Types of Dumpster Rentals We Offer in Arp

Most Arp calls are about clearing out something old. Sometimes a house full of furniture, sometimes a back forty gone to brush.

Estate Cleanouts

Many Arp homes have been in one family for decades. Clearing one out means furniture, clothes, boxes, old appliances and the contents of a shed or two. A 30 yard with 6-foot walls and 3 tons included fits most whole houses. Fridges and freezers need the freon removed before they go in.

We've cleared a lot of family homes out here for grandkids who live in Dallas or Houston. They don't need to drive in for the drop. Cody's advice to them: "Fill the can from the back wall forward, and keep the heavy stuff low."

Barn and Shed Demolition

Old barns and sheds are mostly wood and tin, which are light and bulky. A 40 yard with up to 5 tons fits most barn teardowns. Clean lumber weighs about 169 pounds per cubic yard according to the EPA, so space runs out before weight does.

Honestly, a barn teardown is the most satisfying job we do. One week the barn is leaning over the fence. The next week the can is level with the top rail and the pasture is open again.

Mobile Home Cleanouts

About 18.6% of homes in Arp are mobile homes. Before one is sold, moved or scrapped, the inside has to be emptied: carpet, paneling, cabinets and furniture. A 20 yard usually does it. Carpet weighs about 147 pounds per cubic yard.

Roofing Dumpsters

Older roofs in Arp may have two layers of shingles. That doubles the weight. Tell us how many layers are coming off and we will send the right can.

Tonnage check: two layers of 3-tab on a 20-square roof is close to 5 tons. One layer of the same roof is about half that. We'd rather ask about layers on the phone than find out at the landfill scale.

Land and Fence Line Clearing

Overgrown fence lines, old wire and fallen trees fill a can fast. Brush is bulky, and a 30 or 40 yard holds the most. Old barbed wire can go in if it is rolled up.

On a job last winter off SH-135, a fella cleared a quarter mile of fence line that hadn't been touched since the 1980s. Two 30 yards, rolled wire on the bottom, cedar and sweetgum on top. He said it was the first time he'd seen the back pasture from the porch in twenty years.

What a Dumpster Costs in Arp

A dumpster in Arp costs the same as in Tyler: from $325 for a 15 yard, $345 for a 20 yard, $425 for a 30 yard and $545 for a 40 yard. Each includes delivery, pickup, a 7-day rental and 2 to 5 tons. Extra tons cost $50 to $70 each.

Old Houses, Old Materials

Arp boomed after the first successful oil well in Smith County was drilled nearby in 1931. The town peaked at about 2,500 people in 1936. Some houses from those years still stand, and many more went up in the 1960s and 1970s.

Older homes hold heavier materials: plaster walls, real wood paneling, cast-iron tubs and old tile. A plaster wall weighs more than drywall. Tell us about it when you book.

Every time we work one of these older Arp houses, the plaster surprises somebody. A pickup bed of plaster chunks weighs about what the truck can carry. In a roll-off it's no trouble, as long as we know it's coming.

If a house is older and you are tearing into walls, flooring or ceilings, check for asbestos first. Some old building materials contained it, and it needs special handling.

Up north off SH-155, we also run dumpsters in Winona.

What Can't Go in a Dumpster in Arp

Tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, fuel tanks and hazardous waste can't go in. Old farm sheds often hold half-empty cans of oil, weed killer and paint, so set those aside before the can arrives.

Car batteries, motor oil and antifreeze can go to the Tyler Recycling Center at 414 N Bois D Arc Ave. Ask before loading anything you're unsure of, and your roll-off dumpster in Arp goes to the landfill clean.

Lake Tyler Cabins Near Arp

Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East sit closer to Arp and Whitehouse than to Tyler itself. Lake Tyler was finished in 1949 and Lake Tyler East in 1967, and together they cover about 4,714 acres. The City of Tyler runs both lakes.

Some of the cabins and homes along the shore are as old as the lakes. When they change hands, out comes the paneling, old carpet, worn-out docks and decades of fishing gear. A 20 or 30 yard handles most of them.

We've hauled out cabins where the newest thing in the place was the microwave. Honestly, those are fun jobs. The family tells stories while we load, and the can fills faster than anyone expects.

A July 2007 flood damaged buildings along the lake's edge. If you are clearing a lake building that has taken on water, expect heavier, wetter debris than a dry house, and size up.

Arp Questions

Dumpster Rental in Arp FAQs

What size dumpster do I need for an estate cleanout in Arp?

A 30 yard fits most whole-house cleanouts in Arp. It has 6-foot walls and 3 tons included, which covers furniture, boxes, carpet and a shed or two. For a small house or a single-wide, a 20 yard is usually enough. If you are unsure, go one size up.

Can I put an old barn in a dumpster?

Yes. Barn lumber, tin and framing all go in a roll-off. A 40 yard with up to 5 tons holds most small barns once they are torn down and stacked flat. Old oil cans, chemicals and tires from inside the barn have to come out first.

How long does delivery to Arp take?

Often next-day. Arp is about 18 miles southeast of Tyler, so it is a longer run than town but still close. Same-day is possible if you call early and a truck is free. A photo of the drop spot helps the driver.

Do I need to be home for the dumpster drop in Arp?

No. Clear instructions or a photo of where you want it is enough. The driver calls ahead. If there is a locked gate, leave it open or give us the code, and mark any septic tank or soft spot so the truck stays off it.
